UPDATE: This post was made as Shinn Shots Photography and does not represent the style or goals of Blue Space Photography. Because I believe in knowing where you’ve come from, I’ve left this here as a reminder of the journey that led me to where I am today. I now only shoot storytelling sessions, so be sure to check out my current work in more recent posts! – Lauren
A couple years ago when I relaunched Shinn Shots Photography, my first brand new client to find me from my brand new website was Cathryn. She was pregnant with Mark and was interested in a maternity session, and possibly newborn pictures depending on how the maternity session went. The more we talked, the more I knew we were kindred spirits. She understood that a photographer isn’t just there to breeze in and out leaving you with photographs. Letting a photographer take your picture is like letting her catch a glimpse of your heart. And what a heart the W family has! Lots of love and lots of laughter.
Over the past couple of years I’ve gotten to see her boys grow. I got used to seeing them a lot during Mark’s first year. I was lucky to get to take spring pictures of them at the Botanical Gardens last year…but it’s been about 6 months since I’ve seen them! (Ok, I was just going to link to the blog post from that session, but apparently in my ninth month of pregnancy I let some things slide! I owe you guys a blog post!) Kids change so fast and I couldn’t wait for my session with the W Family so that I could visit with Cathryn and David and enjoy the boys’ company. I’ve missed them over the past 6 months!
Can you believe how big Mark has grown? He’s a busy two-year-old…always on the move. But he’s a happy little guy! At least until he gets hungry (and aren’t we all that way?) I must say, he’s been the easiest two-year-old I’ve ever taken pictures of. He lasted a whole 45 minutes before giving out and he was pretty darn cooperative for “two.” Maybe there’s something to be said for sibling entertainment.
And what about Jack? I absolutely adore how his face lights up when he grins! Jack marches to the beat of his own drum and can sometimes be tough to wrangle for pictures…but his sweet spirit just captures my heart. I enjoy the challenge he gives me. If every kid just sat and smiled or fell for all my tricks, I think I’d get bored. Jack keeps me on my toes and keeps me coming up with new ideas so that I can get that big ol’ smile out of him!
And sweet Emory. What a wonderful big brother…and such a ham! You can tell Emory is the oldest…always trying to get his brothers to help out. Of course, after we’ve taken pictures for awhile, Emory breaks out his “crazy face.” When I call him on it, he says he’s smiling…and he is. It’s just in a manic-giant-grin sort of way! But I love him for it. This kid would eat up an individual photo shoot where we wander around and he does crazy things for me to photograph. (See the last picture in the slideshow below.) Of course, in between the crazy things and manic faces is when his genuine smile escapes (because he thinks he’s so funny!) and I get to capture the sweet side of Emory.
I’ll admit that taking pictures with three small boys takes some effort (and a lot of train sounds!) but it is worth every bit of energy I use up to get those wonderful grins. (Not to mention all the baby weight I’m burning off) Thanks again, W Family, for inviting me out for pictures and for inviting me into your life.
