: The F Family : Elisabeth’s One Year!

UPDATE: This post was made as Shinn Shots Photography and does not represent the style or goals of Blue Space Photography.  Because I believe in knowing where you’ve come from, I’ve left this here as a reminder of the journey that led me to where I am today.  I now only shoot storytelling sessions, so be sure to check out my current work in more recent posts!   – Lauren

When I was studying child development in college, we talked about all the milestones that babies go through in their first year of life.  But when you have your own babies, you realize that the ‘scientific’ developments aren’t really what matter.  What stays in your heart is not the moment they learn to walk, but the look of surprise and pride on their face as they take those first steps.  It’s not their first word that matters most, but the joy that you both know that you can understand each other better.  And while it’s exciting to feed them their first solid foods, what really matters is that they are becoming an ever more permanent member of the family who will soon be sitting at the table enjoying meal time with the people who matter most in your life.

It’s not about the measurable milestones, it’s about all the immeasurable joy that each of those milestones brings.
I had the distinct privilege of being invited in with the family to celebrate Elisabeth’s first birthday.  There’s such a sense of overwhelming gratitude when you feel like you belong, whether it’s belonging to your own family or being welcomed into another.
There was singing and cake and presents, and Elisabeth loved it all…except the party hats!
Of course we did some more formal studio shots too to commemorate her reaching 1 year .
Sally had to hide out of view so that Elisabeth could relax a little and not be so desperate for mom.
Having sister right next to her (sometimes just out of camera view) helped too.
Of course, sometimes she’d catch a glimpse of Mama and there was no stopping her.
I am so lucky to play a small part in documenting this family’s history.  Congratulations on surviving another first year, Sally and Yannick!
